The Scientific Revolution began based on careful observation and the willingness to question beliefs that at that time were unquestionable - such as the geocentric theory -. Many new lands were discovered during the Age of Exploration, particularly in the Americas, which encouraged studies in astronomy and mathematics to make navigation easier and more precise. Despite the Church's pressure, Copernicus produced the Heliocentric Theory in 1543. Following him were Tycho Bahe, who observed the movement of the planets, and Johannes Kepler, who demonstrated planetary orbits. They all supported the Heliocentric Theory. Galileo Galilei, who embraced Copernicus' theories, later invented the telescope in 1609. His results infuriated the Church, who summoned him to the Inquisition.
